Christoph Schumann (political scientist)

Christoph Schumann (born April 25, 1969 in Munich ; † September 1, 2013 ) was a German political scientist .

Career

After the Abitur at the Ernst-Mach-Gymnasium Hair in 1988 and his time as a community service in Munich studied Schumann 1993-1996 History, Political Science and Islamic Studies at the University of Würzburg . His doctoral thesis entitled “Radical Nationalism in Syria and Lebanon. Political Socialization and Elite Education, 1930–1958 ”he graduated in July 2000. From 2007 to 2009, Schumann was assistant professor at the Institute for Islamic Studies and Modern Oriental Philology at the University of Bern . From February 2009 until his death he was Professor of Politics and Contemporary History of the Middle East at the Institute for Political Science at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg , where he had already worked as a research assistant from 2000 to 2007 .

Christoph Schumann Memorial Prize

In memory of Christoph Schumann, the Philosophical Faculty and Department of Theology at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg has been awarding the Christoph Schumann Memorial Prize every two years since 2015 for particularly outstanding theses in the field of contemporary oriental research.
