Institute for Political Science Erlangen
The Institute for Political Science is the political science institute of the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg , located at Kochstrasse 4 in Erlangen . The institute is integrated into the Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy of the Philosophical Faculty. It was founded in 1961 by Waldemar Besson and was initially located in Erlangen Castle . It is the largest political science institute in Northern Bavaria .
Organization and study
The Institute for Political Science is divided into four chairs and two professorships . In addition to the chairs for classical political science fields, political theory , comparative political science and in Erlangen on the Middle East , Germany's only chair for human rights and human rights policy has existed since 2009 . The institute has a department for political science teacher training on the Nuremberg campus of the FAU Philosophical Faculty (“Campus Regensburger Strasse”).
In addition to the bachelor's and master's degree in Political Science and teacher training courses in social studies , the institute also offers a Masters in Human Rights and, in cooperation with other institutes, a Masters in Middle East Studies . Around 1,000 people study at the institute.
The institute, together with other Bavarian universities, is part of the Bavarian Center for Political Theory with the associated Bavarian Doctoral College for Political Theory.
Libraries and Research Centers
The institute has its own institute library as part of the Erlangen-Nuremberg University Library with around 35,000 volumes.
Connected to the institute are two research centers that are available to interested researchers for scientific purposes: The Gerlach archive with 17,000 documents is the estate of the Prussian politician Ernst Ludwig von Gerlach , which also includes parts of the Raumer family archive . The private library of the German-American philosopher Eric Voegelin with 5,000 volumes also belongs to the institute (see Eric Voegelin library ).
