Life

education

Weber studied philosophy and theology at the same time from 1904 to 1906 at the Philosophical-Theological School in Fulda. From 1906 to 1909 he continued his studies in theology, history, German and Semitic languages at the Westphalian Wilhelms University , where he also became a member of the Catholic student union Unitas Sugambria. In 1909 he received his doctorate in Münster . From 1907 he was an assistant at the university library in Münster.

Kiel time

In 1914 he moved to Berlin and in 1921 became department director at the Prussian State Library in Berlin. He then moved to Kiel in 1924 to set up a Scandinavian department as a special library as director of the Kiel University Library . In 1926 his work The German Libraries and German Abroad was published .

After the " seizure of power " by the National Socialists , he was put under pressure in 1933; from the Kiel student body he was accused of having acquired an excessive amount of Catholic literature. Although he received backing from the rector, since Weber had a positive view of the NSDAP regime, the Ministry of Culture judged him negatively. In December 1935 he was transferred to the city and university library in Königsberg and demoted because he had an advance payment from the budget without a receipt. From 1943 to 1945 he worked in the Reich Exchange Office for books stolen from Nazi victims.

In 1946 he was appointed director of the Münster University Library . It is thanks to his commitment that the reconstruction of the university library was quick and uncomplicated. Also in 1946 he was elected a full member of the Historical Commission for Westphalia . In 1951 he ended his activity as library director in Münster.
