Christoph Zielinski

Christoph Zielinski (* 20th May 1952 in Wieliczka ) is an Austrian he Medical Oncologist . He has been Professor of Internal Medicine and Clinical Immunology since 1992, with a special focus on clinical-experimental oncology. Christoph Zielinski has been Medical Director of the Wiener Privatklinik in Vienna since May 2020.

Life

Zielinski is the son of the writer Adam Zielinski and his wife Sophie. In 1957 he came to Vienna with his parents, where he finished school in 1970. He studied medicine at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate in 1976. From 1976 to 1978, Zielinski was an assistant at the Institute for Immunology at the University of Vienna and began his training as a specialist in internal medicine at the II. Medical Univ. Clinic in Vienna. From 1979 to 1981 he was in Boston ( USA ) and was a fellow at the Cancer Research Center of Tufts University under Professor Robert S. Schwartz. After returning to Vienna, Zielinski completed his training as a specialist in internal medicine at the II. Medical Univ. Clinic under Georg Geyer. It was through him in the mid-1980s that he came across his “life theme” (“Make cancer”), habilitated in clinical immunology in 1986 and in internal medicine in 1988, and in 1992 was appointed professor of clinical-experimental oncology. In 2001, Zielinski was appointed head of the Clinical Department for Oncology at the Clinic for Internal Medicine I by Rector Winckler of the University of Vienna. From 2004 to 2017 he was head of the I. University Clinic for Internal Medicine at the Medical University of Vienna . From 2008 to 2010 he was Vice Rector of the Medical Univ. Vienna. In 2010 he became coordinator, in 2013 he was appointed by the Medical Univ. Vienna was appointed head of the Comprehensive Cancer Center , a joint institution of the university and the General Hospital (AKH), ​​of which he was head until the end of 2018.

In 1998, Zielinski founded the patient initiative "Living with Cancer" to remove taboos from cancer in the public. In cooperation with the ORF regional studio in Vienna, the initiative has organized information evenings at regular intervals and, since 2000, the annual “Cancer Day” in the Vienna City Hall.

Zielinski has been President of the Central European Cooperative Oncology Group (CECOG) since 1999. He was elected to the Executive Committee of the European Society of Medical Oncology ESMO for 2014 and 2015. He became a member of the ESMO Council in 2019. Zielinski acted as Local Officer of the congresses of the European Society for Clinical Oncology (ESMO, 2012) and the European Cancer Organization (ECCO, 2015).

Zielinski was editor of the German edition of the Journal of Clinical Oncology . Since January 2016, Zielinski has been editor of the open access journal ESMO Open - Cancer Horizons , which is published by the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) together with the British Medical Journal .

Since 1994, Zielinski is with the former ORF - moderator Ricarda Reinisch-Zielinski married. They have a son together. Zielinski has two other children from a previous marriage.

Zielinski has made over 600 scientific publications of original papers and reviews in peer-reviewed journals with a cumulative impact factor of more than 3,500 and with over 18,000 citations by other authors, his h -index is 65.
