Christoph vom Hagen , also Christoph von Hagen , (* 1592 ; † 1655 ) was a German mining entrepreneur and owner of the city palace in Eisleben .

Life

Hagen came from an aristocratic family in Eichsfeld , whose representatives wrote themselves about Hagen , but were mostly referred to as von Hagen . He received the first name of his grandfather Christoph von Hagen , who was the high princely district administrator of the Archdiocese of Magdeburg in Quedlinburg . His father was the mining entrepreneur Otto vom Hagen . His mother was Elisabeth von Hagen, née von Hoym, widow of Kurt von Schwichelt.

Christoph vom Hagen grew up in Quedlinburg and Berga , where his father worked. From 1612 he had gradually acquired numerous mines in the southern Harz and in the Golden Aue. On June 9, 1620, Elector Johann Georg I of Saxony issued his own mining regulations specifically for his father's mines at Kyffhäuser and Rothenburg.

When his father died in 1626, his fiefdoms and the mines fell to him as the only son. Christoph vom Hagen continued his father's mining company and spent most of this time on his estate in Berga .

Enormous cost increases led to Otto vom Hagen approaching Elector Johann Georg I of Saxony and offering him his mines for sale in 1622. However, Otto von Hagen named such a high price that the Elector declined with thanks. However, he exempted him from paying the mountain tithe and insisted only on the twentieth portion. Christoph vom Hagen renewed the offer to sell the mines at Kyffhäuser and Rothenburg to the Elector. But the elector also refused to buy anything from him.

In addition, he became the sole owner of the former city palace of the Mansfeld Counts (Hinterort line) in Eisleben in 1630.

family

Christoph vom Hagen married Maria, nee von Gadenstedt, who was born on July 25, 1596. With her he had their son Heinrich von Hagen , who inherited his father's possessions and entered Swedish military service.
