history

The street village Golzig was first mentioned on March 23, 1396 under the name Golcz . In 1527 the name Golczigk appeared for the first time . The place name comes from the Sorbian and describes a settlement on the edge of the forest. The names of the nearby villages of Reichwalde, Freiwalde and Schönwalde , for example, indicate an original location in the same forest . The population of Golzig lived mainly from agriculture .

From the 19th century at the latest, Golzig was under the rule of the Lower Lusatian noble family Solms-Baruth . The village had a manor . In 1844 there were 25 buildings in Golzig, in which 194 people lived. There was a watermill and a windmill in the village .

After the Congress of Vienna , the previously Saxon Golzig came to the Kingdom of Prussia . There the community was in the district of Luckau in the administrative district of Frankfurt . On January 1, 1926, Golzig was combined with the neighboring Kasel to form the new municipality of Kasel-Golzig . On July 25, 1952, this community was assigned to the newly formed Luckau district in the Cottbus district . After the fall of the Wall , Golzig was initially in the Luckau district in Brandenburg and joined the Golßener Land office on August 30, 1992 . In the course of the district reform of December 6, 1993, Golzig was assigned to the newly established district of Dahme-Spreewald as part of the municipality of Kasel-Golzig . On January 1, 2013, the Golßener Land office was dissolved and Kasel-Golzig moved to the Unterspreewald office .
