The "Christophel-Schuh" boulder, partially covered with leaves and earth, with three incised drawings

The so-called Christophel shoe on the forest area of the town of Wachenheim an der Weinstrasse ( Rhineland-Palatinate ) is a boulder with incised drawings . It is registered as an individual monument in the list of monuments of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate .

Geographical location

The Christophel shoe is located a few meters away from the boundary between Wachenheim an der Weinstrasse and the country town of Deidesheim on the "Fuchspfad" at an altitude of 490  m above sea level. NHN . About 220 m as the crow flies from here is the Eckkopf summit with the Eckkopf tower , about 3.5 km to the east is the community of Forst on the Weinstrasse .

meaning

Several shoes or sole prints have been scratched on the boulder. It was mentioned as early as 1784 as the "Big Shoe". The district boundary between Wachenheim and Deidesheim runs over the head of the corner, some boundary stones and Loogfelsen still bear witness to this today. Since the Christophel-Schuh is a few meters away from the border (on the Wachenheim side) on a small connecting path, this is probably a signpost and not a border rock.

Nearby, on the Vorderen Stoppelkopf, there is another boulder called the Christophel Shoe ; this is a border rock that marks the border between Wachenheim an der Weinstrasse and Deidesheim.
