Christopher 'Chris' Bale (born May 30, 1982 in Newport ) is a retired Welsh football player .
Career
Bale played for AFC Newport County and Merthyr Tydfil FC in his youth . For the 2007/08 season he moved to New Zealand , where he was active at Waitakere United in the New Zealand Football Championship . In his first season he played in all of Waitakere's competitive games and won the OFC Champions League in the final against Kossa FC from the Solomon Islands with his club . He also made his debut at the FIFA Club World Cup against Sepahan Isfahan , which was lost 3-1. In total, Bale made 29 competitive appearances in his first year in New Zealand, scoring three goals.
The following year, Bale was also one of the pillars of the team and lost with Waitakere in the championship final against Auckland City FC just 2-1. It shouldn't be enough for the Champions League title either, and the first round of the FIFA Club World Cup against Australian representatives Adelaide United was the end of the line.
For the 2009/2010 season Bale moved to Team Wellington , where he was not used as often, but could still reach the semi-finals of the play-offs, which were lost to his former club Waitakere United. Overall, Bale only played 13 times and scored one goal.
In the summer break of 2010 Bale returned to Waitakere United and was able to win the New Zealand Championship with this team, although he was not in the squad in the final against Auckland City. He also played in the Champions League.
In 2012, they defended their title with Waitakere United, when Team Wellington were beaten 4-1 in the final. Bale scored six goals this season in 22 games for Waitakere, but the Champions League and the ASB Charity Cup could not be won.
For the 2012/2013 season, Bale moved to Auckland City FC, with whom he won the OFC Champions League in the final against Waitakere. The championship final and the final of the Charity Cup, however, were lost to his ex-club. Overall, Bale played 24 season games for Auckland in the past season, scoring eight goals.
