Christopher Gibbons

Christopher Gibbons (baptized August 22, 1615 in London ; † October 20, 1676 there ) was an English organist and composer.

Christopher Gibbons, the son of the English composer Orlando Gibbons , was orphaned at the age of eleven and by his uncle Edward Gibbons (1568-1650), who was the choirmaster at King's College , Cambridge. From 1638 he first worked at Winchester Cathedral as an organist, before he succeeded his father in the Chapel Royal and Westminster Abbey in 1660 .

Some anthems for ecclesiastical use, but also several Fantasias for strings, have survived from him.
