Christopher Jones (Bishop)

Christopher Jones (born March 3, 1936 in Rathcroghan, County Roscommon , † May 18, 2018 in Sligo ) was an Irish Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of Elphin .

Life

Christopher Jones studied philosophy and Catholic theology at St. Patrick's College in Maynooth . On June 17, 1962, he was ordained a priest for the diocese of Elphin . On May 24, 1994, Jones was appointed Bishop of Elphin by Pope John Paul II . For many years he was chairman of the bishops' commission for families and children. Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on May 14, 2014.

After the Murphy Report came out , Jones said in an interview that the media was unfair and unfair with the bishops of the Irish Catholic Church .
