The Christ Church in Kempten

The Evangelical Lutheran Christ Church in Kottern , a district of Kempten (Allgäu) , was designed by the architect Otto Heydecker . It is a south-facing polygonal central building with a copper-covered bell tower in the form of a ridge turret . The church is a listed building .

history

After laying the foundation stone on October 31, 1926, the church was consecrated on July 17, 1927. In 1952 the community was elevated to a parish. In 1954 a parish and community center was added to the west of the oval structure. The number of parishioners in the month of consecration was 544. From 1967 to 1975 the number of believers fell from 3,000 to 2,300. With the influx of emigrants and emigrants in 1997, the number of believers in the district of Sankt Mang and the communities Durach , Sulzberg and Oy-Mittelberg rose again to 3,400.

The parish celebrates services together with the parishioners of the neighboring Roman Catholic Church of the Assumption .

The stained glass in the church shows the prodigal son and the blessing of the children . Opposite the simple altar is the gallery . Carved figures of Martin Luther and Huldrych Zwingli are on the pulpit . In the south is the sacristy .
