Kenneth Lavon "Chucky" Atkins (born August 14, 1974 in Orlando ) is a retired American basketball player .

Career

Atkins joined the LaCrosse Bobcats, who played in the CBA , in 1996 after completing his college career at the University of South Florida . A year later, the point guard moved to the European club Cibona Zagreb .

In 1999 Atkins came undrafted to the NBA and initially played for the Orlando Magic . After completing his first season, he was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team . In 2000 he went to the Detroit Pistons . During the 2003-04 season, Atkins was traded for Mike James in the Boston Celtics . In the same year Atkins was sent to the Los Angeles Lakers in a multi-trade . In 2005 he was traded to the Washington Wizards with Caron Butler . In 2006 he signed as a free agent with the Memphis Grizzlies , where he replaced the injured Damon Stoudamire . A year later Atkins was again a free agent and signed a contract with what is now his club, the Denver Nuggets .
