Michael Lamont James (born June 23, 1975 in Amityville , Long Island , New York ) is a retired American basketball player .

Career

Michael Lamont James began his professional career between 1998 and 1999 in St. Pölten (Austria). He then moved 1999-2000 to Châlons-en-Champagne in France, where he played 28 games. He was never drafted and still signed a contract with the Miami Heat in the NBA in 2001 . He then moved within the NBA first to the Boston Celtics (2003), then to the Detroit Pistons (2004), the Milwaukee Bucks (2004), the Houston Rockets (2005) and the Toronto Raptors (2005), where he had his breakthrough Celebrated 20.3 points and 5.8 assists per game. After the season, he signed a four-year contract for around $ 20 million with the Minnesota Timberwolves . With the Wolves, the playmaker acted until June 14, 2007. Then he was given to the Houston Rockets with his teammate Justin Reed in a trade against Juwan Howard . On February 21, 2008 Mike James moved with his teammate from the Houston Rockets, Bonzi Wells , to the New Orleans Hornets in exchange for Bobby Jackson and Adam Haluska . He then played for New Orleans as a backup point guard for Chris Paul . His stats for the 07/08 season were 2.3 points, 0.8 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. Also in the 2008/09 season he mostly sat on the bench with the Hornets until he was traded to the Washington Wizards for Antonio Daniels in late November 2008 . There he was almost continuously in the starting five and impressed with good three-man odds and his passing game.

From January 2012 he played for the Chicago Bulls . Despite solid statistics, James didn't get a new contract in Chicago for the 2012/2013 season. James then trained with several teams on trial without receiving a contract. In January 2013 James finally decided to switch to the NBA Development League and signed a contract with the Texas Legends , the farm team of the Dallas Mavericks . Shortly after his debut for the Legends, James was given a 10-day contract with the Mavericks. After another 10-day contract, James got a contract for the remainder of the season.

In September 2013 James returned to the Chicago Bulls, but was released there on December 16, 2013 and only came to seven missions. After point guard Kirk Hinrich of the Chicago Bulls was injured in late January 2014, Mike James signed a 10-day contract with the Chicago Bulls on January 22, 2014. After his 10-day contract with the Chicago Bulls expired, it was not renewed for the time being. James returns to the Chicago Bulls on April 10, 2014. There he signed a contract for the remainder of the 2013/14 season . For the 2014/15 season, James initially returned to the D-League for the Texas Legends. In 2015 he ended his career.
