NBA

Wells played for Ball State University for four years . In the 1998 NBA Draft , he was selected in 11th place by the Detroit Pistons , but transferred directly to the Portland Trail Blazers afterwards . With the Blazers, Wells quickly earned a reputation as a good defender, but also as a difficult player. At the side of eccentric but talented players like Rasheed Wallace , Isaiah Rider or Damon Stoudamire, the Trailblazers soon got the infamous nickname Jailblazers . However, the team never reached the NBA finals.

In 2003 Wells was transferred to the Memphis Grizzlies . His playing time was reduced, but Wells remained an important part of the Grizzlies rotation.

In 2005 Wells joined the Sacramento Kings . Wells played an impressive 2006 playoff series, scoring 23.6 points and 12 rebounds in six games against the San Antonio Spurs .

In 2006 he signed a contract with the Houston Rockets . However, due to injuries and problems with head coach Jeff Van Gundy, he only played 28 games. After another year in Houston, he was transferred to the New Orleans Hornets in February 2008 , where he stayed until the end of the season.

foreign countries

After he couldn't find a team that wanted to sign him, Wells moved to China. Wells scored 48 points and collected 11 rebounds in his first game for Shanxi Zhongyu .

In November 2009, Wells signed a contract with Capitanes de Arecibo in Puerto Rico .

In December 2011, Wells made a comeback attempt with the Minnesota Timberwolves . However, he was not included in the final squad.
