Ciao ( Japanese ち ゃ お , Chao ) is a Japanese manga magazine that is aimed at a young female audience, mainly elementary and middle school students, and therefore belongs to the Shōjo category. It has been published monthly by Shogakukan since 1977 . While the magazine was still selling around 1 million times a month in 2005, making it the highest-circulation magazine in its target group, sales fell to 480,000 by 2016.
