The Cilindro Municipal ( German  "Städtischerylinder" , officially Estadio Dr. Héctor Grauert ) was a multi-purpose hall in the Uruguayan capital Montevideo .

history

The building was opened in 1956 as a convention center and an arena for exhibitions. It was designed and constructed by the architect Lucas Ríos Demaldé and the engineers Alberto Sydney Miller and Leonel Viera. In 1967, World Basketball Championship games were held here .

On October 21, 2010, the building roof collapsed after a fire inside the Cilindro Municipal. The hall floor and hundreds of seats were completely ruined. The interior minister Eduardo Bonomi announced shortly afterwards that the building would be demolished. The demolition of the hall was successfully completed on May 12, 2014.

The new multi-purpose hall Antel Arena was built on the property . It was opened on November 12, 2018 and offers 10,000 seats for basketball and a maximum of 15,000 for concerts.
