The glamor clique

The Glamor Clique is a book series by Lisi Harrison from Arena Verlag . The target group are young girls aged 13 and over. The external design of the books is also optically tailored to the young target group.

Significance in the book market

On the English-language book market, paperback editions of episodes of the series were sold in considerable numbers. According to Publishers Weekly , The Invasion of the Boy Snatchers sold 156,152 times in 2005, The Clique (German title: Cinderellas Rache ) sold 249,554 times in 2006, and Best Friends for Never in 2007 154,597 times.

The episode Best Friends for Never reached number 9 on the New York Times bestseller list of paperback youth books at the beginning of February 2005 , initially disappeared from the bestseller list and then reappeared at number 7 at the end of February 2005., Reached in March 2005 still ranked 10th, while the episode Revenge of the Wannabes (German: The hour of the supermodels ) reached rank 3. In April 2005, Best Friends for Never climbed to seventh place, while Revenge of the Wanneabes stayed in third place. At the beginning of May 2005, Best Friends for Never slipped to eighth place, Revenge of the Wannebes held third place on the New York Times bestseller list.

The setting is the "Octavian Country Day School" (OCD), a luxury school in Westchester County near New York . The book series revolves around the eponymous clique. It's about glamor, parties, intrigue and of course boys. The friends Massie Block, Kristen Gregory, Alicia Rivera, Dylan Marvil and later also Claire Lyons try everything to be the so-called "trendsetters" at the New York luxury school. Every girl at their school wants to join the hip “beauty committee”, as they call their clique. But not every student is “in”, and those who are “out” will feel it. This concerns first of all Claire Lyons, who comes from not quite so wealthy backgrounds, who comes to the school in the first volume ("Cinderella's Revenge") and has to assert herself.

The beauty committee

Massie Block : She's the leader of the gang and the queen of the school. Massie is always very stylish and has a trademark, her golden charm bracelet. She has a black pug named Bean and her room is called the iPad because it is all white. But even at the beginning of the first volume, Massie wants to cover her room in the “royal color” purple . Massie Block is slim, has amber eyes and dark brown hair that she always has perfectly styled. She strongly prefers Glossip Girl lip gloss . Her parents, Kendra and William, are country club owners. Her boyfriend is Derrington from the 4th to the 8th part, she sprays him with Chanel No. 19 and thus reserves it for yourself. She does the same with Dempsey Solomon. Massie does everything possible to maintain her reputation and rarely admits mistakes. But Massie is not always the bitch she seems to be. When Claire wants to join the clique, she is the one who allows it. Massie is the so-called " alpha " of the clique . In the not yet existing part (German version, English is already on the market), she even befriends Layne Abeley. But what she does in the first volume to get to her crush Chris Abeley. Layne is not very popular at school with her clothes, so Massie hides her "friendship" with Layne. However, it does not last very long because Massie Block has to admit that he cannot face Chris' girlfriend Fawne. In Glamor Forever, she has to move in with Claire. In the end it turns out that Massie is poor.

Alicia Rivera : She has "Beta" status on the Beauty Committee, Alicia is beautiful and is described as a version of Penélope Cruz with a better nose. Alicia is half-Spanish; her mother Nadia is from Spain and used to be a supermodel. Her father's name is Len and he is a lawyer. But he still acts like a real Spaniard. Alicia is reproached for this in the volume: "The hour of the supermodels" and she also has to suffer a lot from not being a full Spaniard in the part "Party with Superstar". She's interested in Josh. They become a couple against Massie's law in "Absolute Flirtation Ban", and Alicia risks being kicked out of the beauty committee. At the end of the book series, she loses interest in Josh because he is too thin for her. Her friend is Olivia and together they are called 20 . That's because the boys in the school both got ten points (the highest score) on the beauty list. Olivia quickly becomes her enemy when she picks up on Josh and the soccer boys. She is therefore called Doof-livia Ryen. Alicia also wants to become a newscaster because they spread the gossip in the noblest of ways that Alicia loves to do. She makes a start as the school's news anchor. Alicia always smells like her Angel perfume. You could call her the perfect Ralph Lauren model as she only ever wears the designer's clothes. She is Alpha of the Heart-Nets (cheerleading group) and Alpha of the Soul-M8 (eight) s (the first boy-girl clique). However, Massie soon stops her Beta friend's alpha fuss.

Kristen Gregory : She's a nerd and only because of a scholarship at the OCD. Initially, only Claire knew about her work secret. She is also very athletic, for example playing on the OCD soccer team . A few years ago, Kristen's father, a wealthy art dealer, lost all of his fortune, so she is on a scholarship at the OCD. Her parents are very strict and forbid her daughter to do anything that costs money. In the band "Kiss Attack", she sneaks into the holiday camp because her parents didn't pay her for it. But her friends support Kristen. One of Kisten's quirks is that she is always doing crossword puzzles . Her mother doesn't allow her to wear what she wants either, so she always has to change on the way to school. She is with Dune Baxter and at the end of "Finger weg vom Märchenprinzen" or the beginning of the next book she starts dating Dempsey Solomon (Massie's crush), which is why she is kicked out of MAC (Massie and Crew).

Dylan Marvil : She has red curly hair and is constantly on a diet. Dylan is the clumsy one in the clique who sometimes burps and farts. Yet that is exactly why her friends love her. She still fits in well with the clique and always helps Kristen with her money problems. She initially likes Chris Plovert. But she screwed it up in the band "Partypanik" with her constant burping and puffing and is later with Massie's ex-boyfriend Derrington. This threatens her to be expelled from the committee. Her mother Merri-Lee hosts the show Asked why Dylan knows so many stars. Dylan eats all the time and, despite many (failed) diets, considers himself too fat. However, it wears off later. Dylan also has a sister, which is only mentioned in the first volume.

Claire Lyons : In the first few parts she is very unpopular with the clique, for example she is called "cow laire", but later she becomes a member of the "beauty committee". Through an insidious intrigue in which computers and chats play a role, she turns the girls against Massie. However, she notices the mistake and gets along with Massie. The two later become best friends. She has a sweet tooth and likes to wear sneakers. She is slim, has blonde hair, some of the hair with bangs , but she lets them grow out. Your friend is from 3rd to 8th part Cam. In Volume 4, she kisses Josh Hotz. In addition, Claire plays the lead role in a Hollywood film in the 6th part, which is why she is predicted to have a bright future as an actress, but she declines further roles. In contrast to the other members, Claire sometimes feels sorry for the victims who had to suffer from the clique. One of them is her friend Layne. She has little money compared to the others and lives in Massie's guest house. She is very loyal and she brought the gang back together after their biggest argument.

Supporting characters

Todd Lyons : Claire's little brother. In the first 8 volumes he is 10 years old and is in the 5th grade. He has red hair and freckles. He often “works” for the girls on the beauty committee, not least because they often promise him a kiss for it. He is in love with Massie.

Little Nathan : He's Todd's best friend.

Layne Abeley : Claire's first and only girlfriend outside of the beauty committee. She has unusual tastes - both in terms of food and clothing - and is therefore the mockery of Massie, Alicia, Dylan and Kristen. She often organizes protest marches together with Meena & Heather, her other best friends. It later emerges that she is secretly friends with Kristen. She falls in love with Dempsey Solomon and works with Massie in Volume 15 by getting models from her aunt Peace's casting agency, whom they buy as Massie's new friends. In the end, she realizes that Massie had only used them to get the girls, she had none of it herself, and tells Massie that she fell in love with Cody from her theater class.

Chris Abeley : Layne's 15 year old brother. In Cinderella's Revenge , Massie falls in love with him until she finds out that he has a girlfriend named Fawn, who is leaving him in It's So Nice To Be a Beast because he spends too much time with his horse Tricky. Thereupon he falls in love with Massie, but she has to couple him with Skye to get the key to a secret room.

Cam Fisher : Claire's on-off boyfriend. He has one blue and one green eye and black curly hair. Massie was in love with him in the second and third volumes until she realized that he was more interested in Claire. He often gives Claire rubber snakes, cinnamon hearts and home-made CDs. He often writes messages to Claire calling themselves "C". In volume 4 he no longer talks to her because of an intrigue involving Nina, then Claire got angry and kissed Josh, but in volume 5 they make up again. In Volume 8, Claire thinks Cam is cheating on her with Nikki, a girl he met at the camp. When Cam finds out that she has read his diary, he breaks up with her, but Claire finds out that he is not with Nikki. In Volume 9 he is with Olivia, but at the end of the book he breaks up with her, and in Volume 10 he is back with Claire.

Harris Fisher : Cam's big brother. Alicia is in love with him until she finds out that he only uses her to get concert tickets. Afterwards, Massie fell in love with him for a moment.

Derick Harrington : Called Derrington by Massie he is with. He has dark blonde, mostly disheveled, hair and brown eyes. He's the goalkeeper for the Briarwood soccer team and only wears shorts for the first eight volumes. In book 8, he breaks up with Massie because he prefers to like more "mature" girls. In Volume 10 he secretly meets Dylan and is released by Massie.

Josh Hotz : In Absolute Flirtation , he's secretly dating Alicia. And he kissed Claire.

Kemp Hurley : In Cupid's competition , he goes to the Valentine's Day dance with Kristen . Kristen only does this so that he will kiss her and she will win the bet that she will be the first to be kissed on the beauty committee. In a panic , he goes to Skye's party with Dylan.

Griffin Hastings : He is the son of the owner of the pizza chain "Slice of Heaven" He seems sensitive and apparently likes romantic books too, which is why Kristen falls in love with him. Later it turns out that Griffin only reads such books to get a good grade and is actually a horror fan, which is why he wanted to go to Skye's famous couples party as Chucky the killer doll and Chucky's bride with Kristen .

Dempsey Solomon : Was a HL until the book Absolute Flirtverbot in which Massie fell in love with him. Claire makes Cam jealous of him. Eventually, because of being in love, Massie leaves the boys diet for the beauty committee. But actually he has a crush on Kristen.

Skye Hamilton : Is the 8th grade alpha in books 7 and 8 and a member of the clique of DSL dateers. She is in love first with Chris Abeley, then with Dune Baxter.

Olivia Ryan : A good friend of Alicia's. She is a "typical", clichéd blonde. You and Alicia are called 20 together. She's dating Cam Fisher in Absolute Flirtation .

Coral McAdams : Called “Strawberry” because of her red-dyed hair. She was a member of the clique Alicia wanted to start in Book 3.

Kori Gedman : She was a member of the clique Alicia wanted to start in Book 3.

Nina Callas : Alicia's cousin from Spain. In the band "Cupid's Shooting Competition" she turns the heads of many guys, including Josh, Cam and Derrington. The beauty committee then comes up with a plan and embarrasses Nina in front of the whole school.

Merri-Lee Marvil : Dylan's mother and host of Inquired . She goes on a school trip with the girls in Volume 5.

filming

The shooting of the film with the original title The Clique took place in February and March 2008. The content is based on the first volume. Directed by Michael Lembeck .

The film was released on DVD in the US on November 18, 2008. The film was released on May 15, 2009 in German under the title Die Glamor-Clique - Cinderella's Revenge .
