Fight against the annexation of Chiapas by Mexico

From 1822 to 1823 the Mexican empire under Agustín de Itúrbide annexed Chiapas and the provinces in Central America. This annexation was partially combated in the annexed areas.

Similar to the independence from Spain ( Grito de Dolores by Miguel Hidalgo ), there was a Grito de Comitán who called for Chiapas ' independence from Mexico. In this independence movement, Cirilo Flores worked with the priest Matías de Córdova.

Cirilo Flores was a participant in the Congress of the New Spanish Provinces in Mexico in the Mexican Empire of 1822.

The constituent assembly for the province of Guatemala, which was elected on May 5, 1824, met for the first time on September 16, 1824 in Antigua Guatemala and elected Alejandro Díaz Cabeza de Vaca, Juan Barrundia, and Cirilo Flores to the provincial leadership. Alejandro Díaz Cabeza de Vaca was the first to take over the office of Supremo Jefe , he was replaced by Juan Barrundia on October 12, 1824. Cirilo Flores was involved in the formation of the Provincias Unidas de Centro América in 1824 .

On June 17, 1826, the Condottiere Nicolás Louís Raoul was arrested by troops of the Central American Confederation. Juan Barrundia intervened and dispatched troops to rescue him. In July 1826 Juan Barrundia was arrested by troops of the Central American Confederation under Manuel Montúfar y Coronado on the orders of Manuel José Arce y Fagoaga .

The Condottiere José Pierson wanted to free Juan Barrundia and was a participant of the Dieta de los Cuatro Jefes del Estado de los Altos in Los Altos (Central America), a meeting at which a military opposition to Arce was agreed.

Cirilo Flores took over the office of Supremo Jefe of the province of Guatemala, in Quetzaltenango and was murdered on October 13, 1826 in the Convento de los Padres Franciscanos (today Centro Comercial Municipal) Quetzaltenango. Whereupon José Pierson went to Salcajá, where 40 soldiers of the Central American Union died on October 18, 1826.

After the murder of Cirilo Flores, the executive power of the Central American Confederation under Manuel José Arce y Fagoaga took over the government of the province of Guatemala.

The city of Flores (Guatemala) was named after Cirilo Flores .
