Cisco Pike, a well-known musician in the past, lives from drug trafficking. Pike's friend Jesse Dupre overdoses on drugs and dies.
Pike wants to stop drug trafficking and return to music. The corrupt police officer Leo Holland forces Pike to sell the drugs confiscated from Holland. Pike's friend Sue points out that he has already had two criminal records for drug trafficking. If he was arrested again, he would face five years in prison, which Sue would not be able to endure. She demands that he choose between her and the drug trade.

The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was an " atmospherically dense first film ". He gives a " realistic, detailed insight into the world of dealers and drug addicts ".
Rotten Tomatoes wrote that the film exemplified the spirit of 1970s films. Harry Dean Stanton's screen presence was praised.
