Sensors

The City class (Type 26) is the youngest type of frigate in the British Royal Navy . The planned eight ships are to be put into service from the mid-2020s. They are built at the BAE Systems Govan shipyard in Glasgow .

The first export customer is Australia , where the Type 26 is referred to as the Hunter class , followed by Canada .

history

The Type 26 was a result of the Future Surface Combatant project . The order for the first construction lot, comprising three units, was placed in July 2017 and the official start of construction took place on July 20, 2017.

It is planned to equip the ships with the short to medium range air defense system Sea Ceptor .

The home port of all frigates of the class is Devonport . The first three units are named after the largest cities in the three smaller states of the United Kingdom.
