features

Macroscopic features

The thallus scales of Cladonia bellidiflora are usually densely standing, small, incised to notched or slit and easily breaking off. While the top is gray-green, the underside looks white and, towards the base of the podium, looks ocher-colored to dark brown, sometimes even dying off. The stems ( podiums ) are up to 5 cm long and slightly curved when they are older. They are densely covered with scaly or leafy, gray-green and ocher-colored to dark brown towards the base and converge to a point. The fruiting bodies ( apothecia ) are red, partly misshapen, single, heaped or growing together.

Spot reaction

Thallus scales and podetia show no reaction with potassium hydroxide (K-) and para-phenylenediamine (P-). Cladonia bellidiflora reacts in UV + white.
