Clara Nast

Clara Nast (born Seyffert ; born April 30, 1866 in Insterburg, East Prussia , today Tschernjachowsk , † 1925 in Tilsit, today Sowetsk ) was a popular German writer for children's and youth literature . She also published under the pseudonym Herbert Fohrbach .

Life

Clara Nast received her first lessons from a tutor in Eydtkuhnen, today Chernyshevskoye . She later attended private schools in Insterburg and Tilsit. On July 3, 1883, she married L. Nast, senior teacher at the royal high school in Tilsit. In the following years she published her first texts in the Neue Musik-Zeitung , the Roman-Bibliothek , the Neue Blatt , the Novellenzeitung and the Illustrierte monthly books . At times the couple also lived in Russia .

Clara Nast published her first own work in 1889 under the pseudandronym Herbert Fohrbach: Old-Lithuanian stories was self-published in Tilsit. It wasn't until 1906 that she published the first book under her own name: How Our Ännchen Fared - Stories for Younger Girls , like all her books from then on, was published by A. Weichert Verlag Berlin. Clara Nast made a name for herself as an author of literature for girls , and most of her works saw several new editions well into the 1930s. Clara Nast wrote a total of 26 children's books, including several series, such as the Aennchen series (3 vol.), The Lottchen series (3 vol.), And the later, particularly successful Hummelchen and Christinchen series (4 vol. Each) . Most of her books were richly illustrated.
