Anselm Haverkamp (born July 18, 1943 in Bonn ) is a German-American literary theorist and philosopher from the Konstanz school .

education

Born in Bonn , grew up in Bonn, Aachen and Düsseldorf , Haverkamp passed an old-language Abitur at the Görres-Gymnasium Düsseldorf. This was followed by studying philosophy, history and literary studies at the Universities of Freiburg im Breisgau , Tours / Poitiers, Zurich , Bonn and Konstanz , which was completed in 1968 with the state and master's exams, supplemented by postgraduate studies in literature in Constance from 1968–70.

Haverkamp was a DAAD lecturer (Junior Lecturer) at the University Colleges Dublin and Cork , National University of Ireland from 1970-72 , and since 1972 research assistant and university assistant at the Universities of Heidelberg and Konstanz. In 1974 he received his doctorate in medieval and general literary studies in Heidelberg with Eberhard Lämmert and Gert Kaiser , and in 1982 the habilitation in Constance with Wolfgang Preisendanz , Wolfgang Iser and Hans Robert Jauß .

Teaching and Research

After completing his habilitation, Haverkamp moved from Constance to Yale in 1984 and from there in 1989 (after a stopover in Freiburg ) to New York University , where he took over the chair for literary theory at the Department of English with the Poetics Institute , where he has held annual seminars since 1993 and organized colloquiums with Jacques Derrida and Stanley Cavell , starting with the programmatic conference Deconstruction Is / In America New York 1993. Since 1994, Haverkamp also participated as a founding professor at the structure of the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder) , where he developed the Heinrich von Kleist Institute for literature and policy instituted and Research Training Group with the New York Poetics and Theory Program Association . Since his retirement at the Viadrina, Haverkamp has held an honorary professorship for philosophy at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . Research priorities

Since 1979 Haverkamp was a member of the research group Poetics and Hermeneutics , whose colloquia volumes XIII and XV he co-edited. As a result, he developed the reception aesthetics of the Konstanz School ( Wolfgang Iser , Hans Robert Jauß , Wolfgang Preisendanz ) under the influence of the Yale School of Deconstruction ( Paul de Man , Jacques Derrida , Geoffrey Hartman ) into a latency theory of literature. Haverkamp's philosophy of metaphor and the theory of latency are in the context of broader works on aesthetics and poetics and the relationship between philosophy and literature.
