Clara Ponty

Clara Ponty (* 1968 in Paris ) is a French pianist and singer who is increasingly performing in the field of jazz and crossover . Initially a classical pianist, she is also assigned to New Age music. She currently (2012) lives in Paris.

Ponty grew up as the daughter of jazz violinist Jean-Luc Ponty in Paris and Los Angeles . She learned the violin and piano and studied classical piano at the Interlochen Arts Academy, the Maryland Conservatory and the University of Southern California . After graduating, she moved to New York. In 1997 Universal released her debut album Clara Ponty with solo recordings of her own classical compositions, followed in 1999 by Embrace (Universal) also with her own compositions.

In 2002 she played in India. In 2004 her album Mirror of Truth (JLP Productions) was released, a first turn to jazz, on which her father also played a few pieces. Echoes followed in 2010 (CARE / Eden Records, with Wolfgang Haffner drums, Dieter Ilg bass, Ernst Ströer drums, Sebastian Studnitzky trumpet, Nils Wülker trumpet), then her vocal album Into the Light (2011, Harmonia Mundi, with Jean-Luc Ponty, Nigel Kennedy , Vincent Segal, Damien Smitt).

She gave a full concert with her father for the first time in 2013.
