Clare Bowen (born May 12, 1984 in Minnamurra , New South Wales ) is an Australian actress and singer , best known for her role as Scarlett O'Connor in the Nashville television series (since 2012).

Life

Bowen's parents worked for the Qantas airline , which means she traveled a lot from a young age and lived in Zimbabwe for a while. She was diagnosed with cancer between the ages of four and seven . Temporarily she grew up in Stanwell Park and attended elementary school in Dulwich Hill, a suburb of Sydney . In 2006 she graduated from the University of Wollongong with a Bachelor of Creative Arts.

In 2009, Bowen starred as Sydney in the female lead in the drama The Combination . In the following three years she took on roles in several short films and as a guest actress in the Australian television series All Saints and Home and Away . Her major film appearances during this time include the thriller The Clinic , the horror film 10 Days to Die and the Western Dead Man's Burden . Since 2012 she has played the leading role of the singer Scarlett O'Connor in the US drama series Nashville .

Bowen married singer Brandon Robert Young in October 2017.
