Claremont is a country town in northern Jamaica . The city is located in County Middlesex in the Parish Saint Ann . In 2012 Claremont had a population of 2,544 people.
Origin of name
Claremont was initially called " Finger Post " until it was renamed in honor of "Clermont House" , the first building in the town, and given its current name.
geography
Claremont is about 10 kilometers as the crow flies from the north coast, and averages 480 meters above sea level. The nearest town is the Golden Grove , about two kilometers to the west . The landscape around the city is mountainous and alternates between cultivated land and forests.
history
The countryside around the city has been home to wealthy landed gentry for centuries. Even today there are a considerable number of elegant houses and estates in the urban area.
Infrastructure
The secondary road B11 , which begins in the neighboring village of Golden Grove and leads to Falmouth on the western north coast, runs through Claremont .
