Claude Simonet

Claude Simonet (born June 27, 1930 in Mortagne-au-Perche , Orne department ) is a former French football player and football official. He was from February 19, 1994 to February 12, 2005 President of the French football association Fédération Française de Football (FFF).

biography

Claude Simonet played as a goalkeeper for US du Mans (1946 to 1954), CO Pontlieue Le Mans (1954/55) and FC Nantes (1955 to 1960). His active career ended in 1968 at La Gilles-de-Retz de Machecoul , for whom he had been in goal since 1962.

With the 41 e d'régiment infantry from Rennes, he was in 1951 French military champion and played with the French military selection and internationally.

As a functionary, he was a board member at FC Nantes from 1972 to 1984. He then became president of the regional association Ligue Atlantique de football . At the FFF he took over the office of treasurer in 1992, before he was elected president of the association in 1994. From 1996 to 2000 he was also vice-president of the Comité national olympique et sportif français , the “French Olympic Committee and Sports Confederation”. From 2000 he served as a member of the UEFA Executive Committee for two years .

After winning the French world championship title , Simonet was appointed officer of the Legion of Honor in 1998 .

In April 2007, a Paris court sentenced Simonet to six months probation and a fine of 10,000 euros for falsifying accounts . He found him guilty of having stated the association's deficit at 63,000 euros in the 2002/03 season, even though it was actually 13.9 million euros.
