Claude Vignon
Claude Vignon (* 19th May 1593 in Tours ; † 10. May 1670 in Paris ) was a French painter of the Baroque .
Life
Claude Vignon studied painting in Paris. In 1610 he went to Rome , where he was influenced by Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio and painted in the Chiaroscuro style . In 1625 he returned to France as a court painter and painted on behalf of King Louis XIII. and Cardinal Richelieu in the Louvre and the Palais Royal . He had two sons who also became painters, Claude François Vignon and Philippe Vignon .
His motifs were scenes from the legends of saints and ancient times. Today his works can be seen in numerous museums, such as the Louvre and the museums of fine arts in Tours , Rennes and Rouen . The Louvre owns: Death of Saint Anthony , Death of Seneca , The Young Singer , Saints Catherine and Solomon and the Queen of Sheba .
In the art market today, up to $ 198,000 is paid for his oil paintings.
