Claudia Döffinger

Claudia Döffinger (born January 1989 in Leonberg ) is a German jazz musician ( piano , composition ).

Live and act

Döffinger, who grew up in Schwieberdingen , received piano lessons from the age of eight. At the age of 13 she played for the first time in a jazz formation, then also in bands and ensembles of other styles such as classical, salsa or blues rock / fusion . After graduating from high school, she moved to Switzerland in 2009, where she obtained a bachelor's degree in jazz piano in 2013 and a master's degree in music education at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences, Switzerland . There she founded her band fourscape , with which she released two albums and toured in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Croatia. Between 2015 and 2018 she studied jazz composition and arrangement at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz with Ed Partyka and Michael Abene, up to a master’s degree .

Döffinger recorded her album Monochrome with the Graz Composers Orchestra , which was released by QFTF in 2018. In 2020 the hr big band played their compositions. In addition, Döffinger devotes herself to chamber music jazz with her quintet EliNOR .

Honourings and prices

In 2008 Döffinger and her trio received a third prize at Jugend jazzt . In 2015 she took part in the Arrangers Workshop of the Metropole Orkest with Lalah Hathaway and Vince Mendoza . In 2016 she received an award at the International Composition Contest in Katowitz, 2017 and 2018 the Down Beat Student Music Award in the category "Original Composition for Large Ensemble". In Graz she was awarded the Harald Kaufmann Prize in 2018 ; she also received the Start grant.
