Claudine Clark
Claudine Clark (* 26. April 1941 in Macon , Georgia ) is an American rhythm-and-blues musician with African-American origin . She was mainly successful as a singer and composer in the 1960s.
Clark grew up in Philadelphia in the US state of Pennsylvania , where she studied composition after completing school. In 1958 she recorded her first record with the New York record company Herald Records with the title Teenage Blues / Angel Of Happiness . In 1962 she signed a recording contract with Chancellor Records in Philadelphia, where it came to three single releases by 1963. At Chancellor she achieved the greatest success of her career, both as a singer and as a composer and lyricist.
In the spring of 1962, Chancellor's first Clark single was released. The A-side was titled Disappointed , on the B-side, Chancellor Clarks put Party Lights , a work he composed and wrote with lyrics . At the radio stations, however, the A-side failed, instead Party Lights quickly developed into a widely played hit. On June 30, 1962, this title found its way onto the Billboard Hot 100 , rose from 95th place to 5th place within nine weeks and was listed on the Hot 100 for a total of 15 weeks. Party Lights even came 3rd in the rhythm and blues charts. Chancellor took this success as an opportunity to release a long-playing record with Clark in 1962 entitled Party Lights (CHL-5029).
Although Claudine Clark published records until the 1970s, sometimes under pseudonyms such as Joy Dawn or Sherry Pye, and changed record labels several times (see single discography), she had no further success as a singer or songwriter. Her attempt in 1962 to write a rock 'n' roll operetta also received little attention.
