Claudio Arbiza , full name Jorge Claudio Arbiza Zanuttini , (born March 3, 1967 in Montevideo , Uruguay) is a former Uruguayan football player .

Career

society

The 1.89 meter tall "Popeye" called goalkeeper Arbiza was at the beginning of his career until 1994 with Club Atlético Defensor (renamed Defensor Sporting in 1989) in the Primera División under contract. While belonging to the Montevideans, he won the Uruguayan championship in 1987 and 1991. In the Apertura and Clausura 1995 he then belonged to the Paraguayan capital club Club Olimpia and became Paraguayan champion. In 1996 he moved to Chile to Colo-Colo , where he stayed until 2000 and won the Chilean championship three times with his team between 1996 and 1998. In the Chileans, however, he did not play continuously, but had to share operating times alternately with Marcelo Ramírez . In total, he played 86 games for the club, in which he had to accept 110 goals. For the Torneo Apertura 2001 he returned to Uruguay and was there for Nacional in Montevideo until 2004 . In 2001 and 2002 he was able to celebrate winning the Uruguayan championship with his teammates again. However, it was reported in February 2004 that he had been without match practice for around two years. He has made seven appearances in the 2004 Copa Libertadores .

National team

Arbiza was also a member of the Uruguayan national football team , with which he participated in the 1995 Copa America . There Uruguay won its 14th title in this competition. In the course of the tournament Arbiza was not used because goalkeeper Fernando Álvez completed all of the Celeste's games over the full playing time. In total, he completed six international matches for his home country from October 19, 1994 to July 7, 1996, in which he was defeated seven times by the opposing players.
