St. Claudius (* 7th century France ; † June 6, around 700 in Condat ) was abbot in Condat and archbishop of Besançon .

Claudius was a monk and abbot in Condat. In 685 he became Archbishop of Besançon . Claudius was one of the most venerated saints in France . His grave in what is now Saint-Claude Cathedral was the destination of pilgrimages.

Patronage

The saint is the patron saint of Burgundy as well as the professions of wood turner, pipe maker, saddler, gingerbread dealer and toy manufacturer. He is called in case of convulsions and misfortune.
