Cleistocactus laniceps is a species of plant in the genus Cleistocactus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet laniceps means 'woolly headed'.
description
Cleistocactus laniceps grows shrubby with several shoots and reaches a height of up to 4 meters with a diameter of up to 5 centimeters. There are about 9 blunt ribs . The large areoles on it are noticeably woolly felted with gray. The three gray thorns are subpulate and up to 1.5 inches long.
The presumably red flowers are up to 3.5 centimeters long. The somewhat curved flower tube is quite woolly. The outer bracts are somewhat spread out. The spherical, red, densely covered fruits are no larger than 1 centimeter in diameter.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Cleistocactus laniceps is distributed in the Bolivian departments of La Paz and Cochabamba in the Yungas at altitudes of 1300 to 2500 meters. It was first described as Cereus laniceps in 1897 by Karl Moritz Schumann . Robert Roland-Gosselin placed them in the genus Cleistocactus in 1904 .
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
