Cleistocactus tenuiserpens is a species of plant in the genus Cleistocactus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet tenuiserpens means 'forming thin snakes'.

description

Cleistocactus tenuiserpens grows shrubby with very slender shoots branching at the base and reaches heights of up to 2 meters with diameters of just under 1 centimeter. There are 9 to 10 low, somewhat arched ribs . The 1 to 2 protruding central spines are up to 2.5 centimeters long. The very slender, spreading radial spines are whitish and 2 to 8 millimeters long.

The strongly zygomorphic , orange-red to red flowers are up to 5 centimeters long. The bracts are quite spread out. The green to red fruits reach a diameter of up to 1.5 centimeters.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Cleistocactus tenuiserpens is distributed in the Peruvian region of Cajamarca in the Huancabamba valley at altitudes of 700 meters. It was first described in 1957 by Werner Rauh and Curt Backeberg .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
