Clemens Bosch

Clemens Bosch , also: Clemens Emin Bosch (born October 6, 1899 in Cologne , † July 22, 1955 in Istanbul ) was a German ancient historian and numismatist .

Bosch was drafted in 1917 and served in the infantry during the First World War . From there he was released in 1919 and passed the high school diploma in Darmstadt in 1920 . He then studied ancient history, classical philology and classical archeology at the universities in Heidelberg and Berlin . In 1925 he was at Wilhelm Weber Dr. phil. PhD ; In 1930 Bosch became senior assistant at the Institute for Classical Studies at the University of Halle . He completed his habilitation in 1932 and was a private lecturer.

In 1937 his teaching license was withdrawn again because of his Jewish wife , and the Wülfing scholarship awarded for 1933/34 had already been revoked .

However, after several previous research stays, Bosch had already permanently emigrated to Turkey since 1935 . From 1935 to 1939 he worked as a numismatist at the Istanbul Archaeological Museum and participated in several excavations. From 1940 until his death he was professor of ancient history at Istanbul University .
