Clemens Massenberg

Clemens Massenberg (born August 25, 1909 in Dortmund ; † August 6, 1954 ) was a German civil engineer and from January 9, 1946 to 1954, building department in Bochum . He decisively shaped the urban reorganization plan of October 1, 1948 and the reconstruction of the city. Kurt Hubert Vieth was one of his staff .

Life

Massenberg grew up in Berlin as the son of a bridge engineer who owned his own construction company. He studied at the TH Berlin with Hans Poelzig and Herman Jansen and became a graduate engineer in 1934. During his studies he became a member of the Navy SA .

On March 8, 1934, Massenberg was a government building trainee at the Prussian State Building Authority in Cottbus . From September 1, 1936, he was active as a design architect in Berlin. The designs and construction management for the Reichsmünze and the Prussia Museum in Berlin allegedly made by him during this period did not come from him.

After working in construction management at the Junkers aircraft and engine works in Dessau , he was given leave of absence from the civil service on February 1, 1937 and from then on headed the construction department of the Krupp fuel works in Wanne-Eickel .

From April 1, 1939 until the end of the Second World War, Massenberg was the head of the construction department of Sudetenländische Treibstoffwerke AG in Brüx, which was classified as "war important" .

Towards the end of the war, Massenberg left for Bochum, where he was appointed full-time building officer of the city of Bochum on December 13, 1945 by the Arnsberg regional president; the appointment to the town planning council took place on January 8, 1946.

Massenberg's tomb is located in the central cemetery in Bochum and was designed by Ferdinand Keilmann .
