Clemens Nagel

Clemens Nagel (born March 6, 1945 in Tambach-Dietharz , Thuringia ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

Life

Nagel attended elementary school and grammar school, which he left with the Abitur in 1965. After completing his two-year military service, he studied at the University of Education and the Realteacher Institute in Karlsruhe, where he passed his first teaching degree in 1970 and the realteacher examination in 1973. After graduating, he worked as a teacher in Baden-Württemberg until 1979.

Nagel was a member of the Education and Science Union . He was a board member of the “Kulturscheune Minfeld” association and was president of the Upper Rhine Conference from 2009 to 2016 . Furthermore, from 1995 to 2013 he was Vice President of the Partnership Association or Friendship Circle Rhineland-Palatinate / Burgundy and was a member of the Upper Rhine Council.

Clemens Nagel joined the SPD in 1974, where he held several regional offices, including chairing the southern Palatinate sub-district. In 1979 he was elected leader of the SPD parliamentary group in the Minfeld council. From 1984 to 2004 he was the local mayor of Minfeld, and was a member of the local council until 2009. From 1984 to 1999 he was also a member of the council of the Verbandsgemeinde Kandel . Nagel has been chairman of the Minfeld SPD local association since February 2020.

Nagel sat in the state parliament of Rhineland-Palatinate from 1975 to 2001 . There he was a member of the Committee on Economics and Transport, from the 10th electoral term (1983) he was deputy chairman of the Environment Committee, which in 1987 became the Committee on Environment and Health and in 1996 the Committee on Environment and Forests. In the 12th electoral term he was also a member of the committee for European issues, the commission of inquiry "Flood Protection" and the committee of inquiry "Establishment and activities of the Society for the Disposal of Hazardous Waste (GBS)", in the 13th electoral period of the committee of inquiry "Concept and activity the hazardous waste management company Rhineland-Palatinate mbH (SAM) as well as the bodies and persons entrusted with supervision ".

From 2001 to 2013 he was the Prime Minister's Commissioner for Cross-Border Cooperation.
