Clemens Witzel
Clemens Witzel (born November 26, 1816 in Rückers near Marbach , † February 7, 1893 in Fulda ) was a German church painter.
Born as the son of the teacher Johann Witzel, Clemens Witzel first studied at the Art Academy in Kassel , and then from April 27, 1849 at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich with Wilhelm von Kaulbach and Carl Theodor von Piloty .
During his studies in Munich Witzel gave painting lessons to the daughter of Duke Max Joseph , Princess Elisabeth Amalie Eugenie , called "Sisi", who later became Empress of Austria and wife of Franz Joseph I.
After completing his studies, Witzel settled in Fulda and worked as a painter and creator of altar paintings. He also taught as a drawing teacher at the drawing academy in Fulda.
He created several pictures for the Arch Brotherhood of the Holy Heart of Mary, based in Fulda. a. Annunciation and engagement of Mary in Fulda Cathedral .
