Clifford Etienne (born March 9, 1972 in Lafayette , Louisiana ) is an American heavyweight boxer. His nickname is The Black Rhino , translated as "The Black Rhino ".

In 1987 Etienne was sentenced to forty years in prison for a robbery , but was pardoned after ten years. In prison, he won the Louisiana State Prisoner Championships.

In 1998 he boxed his first professional heavyweight fight after parole. On June 5, 2000 he fought against the then undefeated eventual WBO world champion and later conqueror of Wladimir Klitschko , Lamon Brewster, and surprisingly beat him on points. He impressed with his action-packed fighting style ( Pressure Fighter ). In the same year he also won victories against Cliff Couser and the Olympian Lawrence Clay-Bey in a fight that was also very fast.

However, Etienne has neither outstanding clout nor good taker skills, which means a great risk with his offensive style. In March 2001 he had no chance against Fres Oquendo and was knocked out in the eighth round.

In 2002 he boxed against Francois Botha in a draw; In the next fight, however, he went KO against Mike Tyson after just 49 seconds of the first round. He never came close to the top of the world and lost to Calvin Brock and Nikolai Valujew in three rounds each early in 2005 .

He was arrested again in August 2005 for armed robbery, kidnapping and attempting to shoot a police officer and a family he had abducted, and charged in March 2006. On June 22, 2006, he was sentenced to 150 years in prison without parole for these crimes. In April 2013 this prison term was reduced by 45 years to 105 years in prison for a procedural error.
