Climacium ( ladder moss ) is a small genus of deciduous moss from the Climaciaceae family .

description

They are strong plants with creeping, rhizome-like and rhizoid-felted primary shoots and upright, tree-shaped branched secondary shoots. The leaves are broadly ovate to ovate, lanceolate, coarsely serrated at the top and hardly descending on the stem. Perichetial leaves are erect. The spore capsules are cylindrical and erect, the peristome is fully developed, the teeth of the outer peristome are papillary above. The large capsule hood ( kalyptra ) envelops the entire capsule.

Distribution areas are the Holarctic , Mexico and Australasia .
