history

1924 Temperley vice amateur champions team

The Club Atlético Temperley was founded on November 1, 1912 in the city of Temperley in the administrative area of Lomas de Zamora in the province of Buenos Aires . In the first few years, the club did not play in a real stadium. It was not until 1924 that the club's own Estadio Alfredo Beranger , named after a Temperley president in the 1920s, was built and has been the home of CA Temperley ever since.

CA Temperley was accepted into the Asociación del Fútbol Argentino in 1917 five years after the association was founded . In the time before professional football was introduced in Argentina, Temperley experienced its most successful phase. The Argentine soccer championship in 1924 even finished in second place, only behind the Boca Juniors . When establishing the Primera División as the highest professional league in the country, CA Temperley decided not to participate in the championship voluntarily. In 1932, CA Temperley merged with Argentino de Banfield and from then on played as Argentino de Temperley for a few years in one of the highest amateur leagues held parallel to the Primera División. A few years later, the club management revised the decision in favor of amateur football, but for a long time afterwards there was nothing more than participation in the second-highest division.

It was not until 1974 that CA Temperley managed to jump into the Primera División for the first time with a first place in Primera B. In the playoffs they left Estudiantes de Buenos Aires , CA Lanús and Unión de Santa Fe behind and qualified for the first time for the highest Argentine professional league. Under coach Jorge Ginarte , Temperley held for three seasons up to and including 1977 in the Primera División, but did not get beyond placements in the lower third of the table. Eighth place in the Torneo Nacional of the Primera División 1975 was the best placement at that time. Five years after relegation, CA Temperley was able to return to the Primera División after taking second place behind CA San Lorenzo de Almagro in Primera B 1982 and prevailing against Club Atlético Atlanta in the playoffs . This time Temperley could hold five years in the Primera División and only had to relegate after the end of the 1986/87 season . In the playout games against relegation they lost to CA Platense 0: 2.

After relegation from the Primera División in 1987, difficult times broke for CA Temperley. In 1991 Temperley went bankrupt and had to restart in the deep amateur field. The club slowly worked its way up again and was able to celebrate its return to the Primera División in 2014 after almost thirty years. With third place in the Zona B of the Primera B Nacional, they benefited from the increase in the top division to thirty teams and played first-class until 2018 before they were relegated again.
