The Club Deportivo Atlético Baleares ( Catalan Club Esportiu Atlètic Balears ), CD Atlético Baleares for short or just Atlético Baleares , is a Spanish football club from the city of Palma . The team will play in the third highest Spanish division, the Segunda División B , in the 2019/20 season .

history

Atlético Baleares was founded in 1920 under the name Baleares Foot-Ball Club . In 1942, the club in its current form was created from the merger of various predecessor clubs. In its almost 97 years of club history, the Mallorcans played mostly in the Tercera División , which was first the third highest, then fourth highest Spanish league. The greatest success in the club's history was the two-time promotion to the second division, the Segunda División , in which they played a total of four years. For the first time, the promotion to the second division succeeded in the 1950/51 season. In the years 1951 to 1953 the team was able to stay there. The return to professional football succeeded after an eight-year break, but again the club was only for two seasons in the Segunda División. After that, the club only played third and fourth class. In 2005 Atlético Baleares was even thrown back to the fifth division, but rose again the following year. In the 2007/08 season, the team was champions of the Tercera Division, Group 11 and rose to the Segunda Division B. It was only able to stay there for a year, but in 2010 it was able to rise again directly.

In the 2014/15 season, it was the Berlin entrepreneur Ingo Volckmann who saved the club from bankruptcy.
