Clusone 3 (also Clusone Trio ) was a jazz trio of the 1980s and 1990s.

Band history

Michael Moore and Ernst Reijseger played together in the Netherlands in the late 1970s; Moore also had a trio with Han Bennink and Sean Bergin . Moore and Reijseger then had a few appearances with Bennink, resulting in recordings that made up half of the 1980 LP Taiming . After 1981 the trio split up again until Reijseger was asked to put together an ensemble for the music festival in Clusone in northern Italy in 1988 ; he chose Michael Moore, Han Bennink and Guus Janssen as partners. After Jansen quit after a few gigs, the trio continued to work.

When the organizers of the Clusone Festival planned a Europe-wide tour of the three musicians, the band name Clusone 3 was chosen. The music from the 1990 tour appeared on the album Clusone 3 . In 1993, the Irving Berlin tribute album Soft Lights and Sweet Music was co-produced by WDR and HatHut Records .

In the following years, the trio toured regularly in Europe and North America; they played their own compositions as well as material by Duke Ellington , Herbie Nichols , Misha Mengelberg or Lee Konitz . The criticism made comparisons with formations by Chico Hamilton or Jimmy Giuffre . In 1997 a concept album was created with improvisations on bird songs ( Rara Avis , 1997, in German rare birds ) with material such as the folk song Turkey in the Straw or Camille Saint-Saëns ' Le Cygne . In addition, several live albums were published by Gramavision and HatOLOGY. Shortly after a concert given in March 1998 (published as An Hour with ... ) the trio broke up.
