Quarry pond |
The Cluvenhagener See (also Baggersee Cluvenhagen) is a quarry pond near the village of Cluvenhagen in the Verden district , Lower Saxony . The lake was created by dredging sand , and the area is considered one of the last inland dune areas between Bremen and Verden . Two areas in the immediate vicinity of the lake are managed by the NABU Group Langwedel and, thanks to the dry sand dunes in the immediate vicinity of the lake wetland, provide a special habitat for sand bees and other sand insects. Sand bees, which create passages in the sand dunes for their breeding, feed on pollen from the willow trees that grow in the immediate vicinity of the lake.
The Cluvenhagener See is not an official bathing lake , there are neither sanitary facilities nor regulated waste disposal , nor is the bathing water quality monitored by the authorities. Nevertheless, it is visited by many bathers in summer. According to press reports, the bathing company gets along relatively well with the interests of nature conservation. Instead of prohibition signs, information boards are set up with informative explanations of the importance of the open sand areas for the animal world and the request not to enter them.
The lake is located in the conservation area "Alte Aller and White Mountains," which for a distance of about 6 km long along the old Aller covers a total area of about 500 ha. The Cluvenhagener See with its vegetation-free sandy areas of the surrounding dune areas is given special importance. In 2014, the inland dune areas with Lake Cluvenhagen were highlighted as one of the protection goals of the area. These should be secured and developed as far as possible.
