history

The newspaper was founded in 1886 by the publisher Friedrich Riemann, edited by the owner Theodor Hermann Wechsung and published by the Riemann'sche Hofbuchhandlung. The Coburger Tageblatt - Generalanzeiger für Stadt und Land - organ for politics, local history, trade and business dealings should become the voice of the liberal forces. From 1893 to 1908 Otto Kirchhof from Sondershausen was the editor of the newspaper. Friedrich Colbatzky followed as a publisher. In 1936 the newspaper was expropriated by the National Socialists and merged with the Coburg National Zeitung in 1940 ; in 1942 the newspaper title was deleted.

The Colbatzky family re-founded the Coburger Tageblatt in 1945 after the end of the Second World War . Four years later, in 1949, the forced leasing was lifted by the military government . Hans-Georg Ehrhardt received a newspaper license, so that Paula Colbatzky could start again with the production of the Coburger Tageblatt with his help in the court brewery on Mohrenstrasse. Hanns Thormann became editor-in-chief and remained in this position until 1962.

The Coburger Tageblatt was sold in 1971 by Friedrich-Herbert Colbatzky to the EC Baumann-Verlag in Kulmbach . From then on, the Kulmbach publisher Horst Uhlemann published the Coburger Tageblatt as the second daily newspaper alongside the Bayerische Rundschau . In 2003 the publisher Fränkischer Tag Bamberg took over the majority of Baumann GmbH & Co. KG. This resulted in the continued existence as Coburger Tageblatt Verlag & Medien GmbH & Co. KG with an independent local, sports and culture department in Coburg. The Coburger Tageblatt has been part of the Upper Franconia Media Group since 2009 .
