Raviscanina is a municipality in the Italian province of Caserta in the Campania region with 1265 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is part of the Comunità Montana del Matese .

The neighboring communities are Ailano , Pietravairano , Prata Sannita , Sant'Angelo d'Alife , Vairano Patenora and Valle Agricola .

geography

Raviscanina is located in the north of the Campania region at the foot of Mount Matese , about 25 km from the border with the neighboring region of Molise . The provincial capital Caserta is about 58 km south . Naples is about 85 km south. The capital Rome is 183 km to the northwest .

etymology

The origin of the name is uncertain. It could be derived from rubus caninus (ital .: rovo di cani, dt .: blackberry of dogs). Rupecanina was also mentioned in the past , which indicates a Norman village.

The municipality has the two districts Quattro Venti and Case Pagane.
