Castello del Matese is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 1425 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Caserta in Campania . It is part of the Comunità Montana del Matese . The municipality is located about 30 kilometers north of Caserta and borders directly on the province of Campobasso ( Molise ). Until the end of 1970 the community was still called Castello d'Alife .

In 1688 the community was shaken by a violent earthquake.
