history
The history of the community goes back to ancient times. However, it should not be confused with the Oscar town of Liternum , which was about 10 kilometers south of Villa Literno. Liternum was a rather insignificant trading post or marshal on the Via Domitiana , which led from Terracina to Reggio (Rhegium) , between Cumae and the mouth of the Volturno . the place appears in the itineraries up to the 8th century. There are still excavation remains from the settlement.
The name of the municipality was determined by ministerial decree in 1927. The municipality was previously called Vico di Pantano .
traffic
The municipality is located on Strada Statale 7 bis , while Strada Statale 7quater cuts through the municipality in the west in a north-south direction. The Grazzanise military airfield is 10 kilometers north of Villa Literno and is to be converted into a civil airport due to the limited capacity of the Neapolitan airport. Villa Literno is connected to the rail network through its train station on the Roma – Formia – Napoli line. Villa Literno is also the terminus of the suburban railway Passante ferroviario di Napoli .
