Vairano Patenora is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 6543 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Caserta in Campania . The municipality is located about 33 kilometers north-northwest of Caserta . The Volturno flows north .
history
While the area was already settled in the Paleolithic, the Oscars settled here for the first time . In the Middle Ages, the Lombards became rulers of the area between the 6th and 9th centuries. In 1191 the area around Vairano was transferred to the monastery of Montecassino . In 1461 the castle was completely destroyed by the military leader Marino Marzano .

Strada Statale 372 Telesina and Strada Statale 608 di Teano run through the municipality . From here the Strada Statale 85 Venafrana to Pescolanciano begins . The high-speed railway line from Rome to Naples runs through the town . Together with the neighboring municipality of Caianello, there is the terminus for the line to Isernia .
