San Felice a Cancello is an Italian commune ( comune ) with 17,245 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Caserta in Campania . The municipality is located about 14 kilometers southeast of Caserta and about 30 kilometers northeast of Naples in the middle of the Valle di Suessola . Nearby is the mountain Sant'Angelo a Palombara (661 m) on the edge of the Parco Regionale del Partenio . The municipality borders on the metropolitan city of Naples .

history

The area was settled by the Samnites as early as the 5th century BC . There is evidence of a local chapel dedicated to the martyr and bishop Felix von Nola from the 10th century. For many years the places were dependent on the rule in Arienzo .

traffic

The municipality extends along the railway line from Rome to Naples in a northeast-southwest direction. From the train station in Cancello there are still connections to Avellino and Benevento . The Autostrada A 30 from Caserta / San Marco Evangelista to Salerno / Mercato San Severino also leads past the Cancello district . North of the municipality, Strada Statale 7 leads from Caserta / Maddaloni to Benevento.
